I have had a remarkable experience at Highland Park Automotive. I first found them when I needed my license plates changed coming back from the DMV, as the screws on my old plates were rusty. The owner, Duane, took the time to help me change the plates without charging me. When my car started making a weird noise and I knew it might need more serious repairs, I looked around on google reviews, and the positive things people had to say here combined with the help I’d been offered previously meant that I decided to go to Highland Park Automotive. Duane offered to do a full diagnostic of my car to not only figure out what was currently wrong, but to give me a timeline of things that were that I would need replaced in the next few years. The problems that needed immediate addressing were my rear brakes, timing belt, and right front wheel bearing. He gave me the cost including labor and parts upfront, explained the work that needed to be done, and texted me pictures of my car so that I could see what was wrong. As the total cost of repairs came out to over $1000 (both a timing belt being very expensive to replace, as well as my rear wheels needed new rotors), and I know very little about cars, I asked my uncle who is a semi-professional mechanic to call and confirm that these prices were reasonable. My uncle confirmed that I wouldn’t find a better deal anywhere else. It took one day for the rather sizable amount of repairs to be finished, and my car is running perfectly now. Duane followed up by asking a week later whether or not everything was running smoothly, and checked out what turned out to be a malfunctioning light on my dash for free.
Excellent experience! My car was making a strange noise so I took it in around 3pm because this place is close to my house and had good reviews. Duane took it for a drive around the block and guessed it was my brakes. He recommended I come back at 8am the next day since he couldn't fix it that day. I came back, dropped off the car and he fixed my brakes (plus gave me an oil change) by 3pm. He called and explained all the repairs and costs (including tax and labor) first. It was reasonably priced considered my rear brakes were completely shot. Less than a week later I received a sweet handwritten thank you card in the mail with a Starbucks gift card for being a new customer! Talk about customer service and attention! Highly recommend!
I will certainly continue coming here as long as I live in Highland Park. When doing oil changes, he checks for any other problems in the car, so I know that I can always trust how my car is running by going to Highland Park Automotive.
Bit expensive but good service as always! The owner of the shop is very honest which is what I appreciate the most, he would call and tell me everything that needs to be fixed about the car and let me decide. Highly Recommended.
Duane is absolutely amazing! He worked on my Mazda he did so promptly and walked me step by step of the diagnosis so I know exactly what was wrong and what he was going to do. Works with his customers, he understanding that some of us are students and can't really afford everything at once. He even hand writes a thank you letter to repeat customers.
Duane is simply terrific! He really cares for his customers and does his best to make sure they leave satisfied. He even squeezed me the same day I called and he gives you affordable rates. The fact that he can relate to his customers makes communication so much easier. I highly recommend him if your looking for a down to earth, competent, affordable mechanic.
